Diesel Technic introduces automated guided vehicle system in intralogistics

DIESEL TECHNIC

Faster order processing thanks to automated logistics processes

In June, an automated guided vehicle system (AGV) was introduced at Diesel Technic. After the automated small parts warehouse at the headquarter in Kirchdorf, Lower Saxony, was put into operation in December 2019, this is the next step in increasing efficiency. With the help of this investment, the company is responding to the constantly growing challenges in the logistics world, while customers benefit from the logistical efficiency.

A driverless transport system is one of the most advanced technologies in a company’s logistics, making the transport of goods and materials more efficient. AGV's are in-plant, floor-bound conveyor systems with automatically controlled vehicles.

In particular, the lifting height of the vehicles (up to 6 meters) and the cantilevered forks ensure flexible use in intralogistics. Another special feature is the individual travel paths of the vehicles, which were customised on the basis of the existing warehouse layout at Diesel Technic so that the travel speed of around 6 km/h and the maximum load capacity of 1,500 kg are optimally utilised.

To ensure the safety of every person in the storage area, the AGV uses safety laser scanners with 360° all-round visibility. Furthermore, integrated floor spot lighting improves the visibility of the vehicles, which prevents collisions with people and vehicles.

The AGV is independent of personnel. This means that, apart from loading times, it ensures constant availability and is therefore almost continuously in operation.

The use of the new technology optimises work processes, resulting in even faster order processing and improved delivery accuracy, which should ultimately please Diesel Technic’s customers.
