Pioneering spirit as a driving force: two decades of market leadership in Spain and Portugal

The founding of Diesel Technic Iberia S.L. in 2005 marked the beginning of a remarkable success story in Spain. What began with a small team and a modest warehouse has developed over the years into a central hub for supporting distribution partners on the Iberian Peninsula. Today, 20 years later, the company can look back on an eventful past – marked by growth, challenges and continuous development.

‘The early years were characterised by a pioneering spirit and the firm conviction that we could build something big in Spain and Portugal,’ recalls Martin Ratón Arias, Managing Director of Diesel Technic Iberia S.L. The subsidiary started in 2005 with just three employees and a 350 m² warehouse in San Fernando de Henares. Its strategic location near Barajas Airport and the A-2 and M-50 motorways proved ideal for the planned expansion.

An early milestone was participation in Motortec Madrid 2007 – the most important trade fair for the industry in Spain and Portugal. Since then, Diesel Technic Iberia S.L. has been a regular exhibitor at the fair.

Consolidation and expansion: A new chapter in Torrejón de Ardoz

The continuous growth in demand, the expansion of the product range and the successful launch of the product line for transporters led to another strategic step in 2018: the move to a state-of-the-art logistics park in Torrejón de Ardoz. Today, more than 30,000 items from a comprehensive catalogue of over 45,000 spare parts are stored in an area of around 5,300 m² – a clear sign of the efficiency and market presence of Diesel Technic Iberia S.L.

It is remarkable that all relocations were carried out in record time and without interrupting service. Even in critical moments such as a severe flood with a collapsed roof, the pandemic or the Filomena snowstorm, the company remained operational and service-oriented.

Digitalisation as a factor for success

Since relocating in 2018, Diesel Technic Iberia S.L. has established itself as a leading supplier of spare parts for commercial vehicles in Spain. The digital heart of the company is the Partner Portal – an indispensable tool for thousands of professionals, which enables spare parts to be identified using the VIN number, among other things.

Adapting to a changing industry

‘Over the past two decades, Diesel Technic Iberia S.L. has successfully adapted to the profound changes in the commercial vehicle spare parts market,’ says Martin Ratón Arias. Digitalisation, new legal requirements such as the Euro standards, the introduction of electronic systems and the onset of electrification in light commercial vehicles and buses have significantly changed the requirements.

The customer structure has also changed: fleets are now more professional and demanding, maintenance contracts are on the rise, and large international corporations dominate sales. ‘Express deliveries within 24 hours or even on the same day are now standard, as is online traceability,’ explains the managing director, not without pride.

Workshops and dealers are reducing their inventories and working directly with suppliers' stocks – a trend that requires efficient and reliable logistics. At the same time, there is growing demand for technical training and digital diagnostic tools to address the shortage of skilled workers and meet increasing requirements.

Looking to the future: proximity to customers as a goal

Behind this success is an experienced team of 27 dedicated service professionals. The next milestone is the opening of additional logistics centres to bring us even closer to our distribution partners.
